Glenway Wescott was born April 11th, 1901 in Kewaskum, WI. After studying at the University of Chicago, Wescott began writing poetry though he was best known for his short stories and novels. Wescott met Monroe Wheeler in 1919 and the two men had a relationship and lived together until Wescott's death in 1987. After living in Germany and Paris, Wescott and Wheeler (who was a curator at the Museum of Modern Art) shared a New York apartment with gay photographer George Platt Lynes. Wescott owned a Paul Cadmus painting depicting Wescott, Wheeler and Lynes sitting on a picnic blanket.
