Provincetown Named Best Beach Resort Town for
2nd Consecutive Year in International Online Poll
Provincetown,
Massachusetts, remains the best "Beach Resort Town" in the world,
according to an online poll of international voters.
For the second consecutive year, Provincetown earned the honor in an online poll conducted by GayCities,
coming ahead of other international destinations such as Rio de
Janeiro, Puerto Vallarta, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Key West and Tel Aviv.
Ptown also was a finalist in the "Ultimate Dream City" category,
competing in its own right against cities like Paris, New York, San
Francisco, Rome, Sydney, London and Barcelona.
Ptown, as is it
called by those who love it, is no stranger to international acclaim.
Known as "America's First Destination," a reference to the Pilgrims'
first landing there in 1620, the scenic town at the tip of Cape Cod
serves as the perfect beach resort town. Surrounded by the north, east
and south by water, its beaches have earned an international reputation
as the welcome home for a diverse population.
Two beaches-Herring Cove and Race Point-are
considered premier destinations for fun, sun and an atmosphere that
welcomes everyone. Many of Ptown's beaches are accessible by bike, and
present great opportunities for swimming, gentle surfing, whale
watching, dune hiking, and picnicking.
"As a result of all
we have to offer, our first-time visitors tend to extend their
vacations," said Provincetown Director of Tourism Tony Fuccillo. "And we
have a tremendous number of return visitors because they realize they
can't get the same beach resort experience anywhere else."
While locals and
visitors have known about the attractions and benefits of Ptown for
years, its international reputation as a place that is like nowhere else
continues to spread. Here is a list of other awards Ptown has earned in
recent years.
