October 1st marks the anniversary of the first legally united and recognized same sex couple when Axel and Eigil Axgil are married on October 1st, 1989 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Axgils were among eleven couples to register that day. They had been a couple for nearly forty years when the ceremony took place.
