Come out to SF! Way Out!

New itineraries and hotel packages at  http://www.sanfrancisco.travel/lgbt

“San Francisco practically invented gay pride.  When we say ‘Come out to San Francisco, we mean you’re welcome to come way out,” said Joe D’Alessandro, San Francisco Travel president and CEO.

To help LGBT visitors make the most of their days and nights in the city, the San Francisco Travel Association has launched a guide to “49 Hours of SF: Out & About” at http://www.sanfrancisco.travel/lgbt.

“A lot can happen in this city, even with just an extra hour, so we’ve designed six different itineraries that will give our visitors an unforgettable experience here,” D’Alessandro said.

A “build your own itinerary” tool allows visitors to select items from each of the itineraries and build their own 49 hour excursions, which can be shared via Facebook, Twitter or email.

“49 Hours of SF” hotel packages, which can be booked on the website, include amenities such as free parking or breakfast.  In honor of the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th anniversary, American Express has a special hotel offer valid for bookings through September 30, 2012. Visitors who book their hotel stay with any American Express® Card will receive a $75 Westfield Gift Card.

San Francisco Travel suggests six different itineraries in and around San Francisco, including:

The See-er of Sights – The ultimate guide to what makes San Francisco legendary.

The Fabulous Foodie – A curated list to satisfy the accomplished palate.

The Fashionista – A fabulous wardrobe is only the beginning.

The Lover of Finer Things – Arts and culture to stimulate the mind and touch the heart.

The Up-All-Night Owl – Where to go to see and be seen.

The Hardbody – Working off that extra martini was never so much fun.

By entering a specific travel date and event interests, visitors can also see a list of special events taking place over the 49 hours they’re in San Francisco, which are also outlined by location on a map, making exploration even easier.

The number 49 has long had special significance for San Francisco.  The city’s population exploded with the Gold Rush of 1849.  The city itself measures 49 square miles (or “49 square miles surrounded by reality,” as one luminary once said).  Motorists can tour the city on the 49 Mile Scenic Drive.  And don’t forget that famous football team with 49 in the name.

“49 Hours of SF: Out & About” is supported by presenting sponsor GayCities, along with American Express, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and Westfield San Francisco Centre.

"San Francisco consistently ranks as a top city for our members," said Scott Gatz, CEO, GayCities, Inc. "Whether they are planning a trip, using our app to find what's happening around town or sharing their opinions afterwards, our guide to San Francisco is one of the most popular cities on GayCities.   We're excited to partner with San Francisco Travel to create fun and innovative programs highlighting the best of this city."

GayCities, a major supporter of the program, is the leading LGBT travel and location-based social network that helps people uncover the best of what's happening everywhere.  At www.gaycities.com, members contribute their own experiences and discover what people like them really think about their town and cities around the world. GayCities brings together mobile checkins, reviews, questions and answers and up-to-date listings of bars, clubs, restaurants, shops, hotels and other venues in 215 cities via the web site and popular iPhone app. GayCities reaches over 550,000 visitors each month.

To celebrate San Francisco Pride, San Francisco Travel and GayCities have jointly developed a social media check-in challenge called “49 Places That Make Us Proud.”  During the month of June, LGBT visitors and locals in San Francisco will be asked to chec- in on GayCities, Facebook or Foursquare to a list of 49 places spread throughout the city for a chance to win a trip back to San Francisco (or to give to a friend to visit.) The grand prize package includes airfare for two on American Airlines, a two night stay at a Kimpton hotel, a $100 dining certificate, and a pair of San Francisco CityPASSes.  Each check-in increases the chance of winning, and prizes and discounts will be distributed at check-in businesses participating in the program.
